This cool Dick Tracy 2 Transistor Boys Radio was manufactured in Japan in 1961. I’m unsure who the manufacturer was. The name SANCO is printed on the circuit board along with the model number STR-220. I believe that SANCO was a manufacturer of circuit boards during this era.
Dick Tracy is a long-running comic strip featuring a popular and familiar character in American pop culture. Dick Tracy is a hard-hitting, fast-shooting, and supremely intelligent police detective who has matched wits with a variety of often grotesquely ugly villains. Created by cartoonist Chester Gould in 1931, the strip made its debut appearance on October 4 1931 & was distributed by the Chicargo Tribune Syndicate.
This radio features an under-painted face with tough guy Dick Tracy in profile. It also features a mock Police badge molded into the metal speaker grill. Stick em up punk!!
This smart Dick Tracy radio comes with a gift box displaying hip comic book graphics from 1961. It also comes with a shoulder holster and secret ear plug. Well that’s how they are referred to on the box. Just the right tools for an aspiring hard nosed Police Detective. To top it off it also comes with an old ‘GETTOP’ battery still sealed in plastic.
