This uncommon Spica ST-2B Boys Radio was manufactured in Japan by Sanritsu Electric Co circa 1959.

With only two transistors this radio was classified by American authorities as a toy, merely a ‘Boys Radio’ subject to lower import duties than a ‘real radio’. And it’s a little known fact that any radio with three or more transistors is stamped ‘Mans Radio’ on the inside of the tuning capacitor…

This Spica radio features a splendid little triangular crown and shield badge on the speaker grill. It also has an extendable aerial and a wire kickstand. These are uncommon features for a Boys Radio.

This Spica ST-2B is not marked as a ‘Boys Radio’ instead its marked 2TR on the back and ‘All Transistor’ on the front. Make no mistake though; this is a Boys Radio and a very cool one at that!
